A better wrap for pork

Eating pork could reduce your waistline.

That’s what researchers at the University of South Australia are trying to prove.

Dr Karen Murphy, senior research fellow for the Nutritional Research Centre at the University of South Australia is working on a trial funded by the State Government to find the benefits of eating lean pork, compared with red meat and chicken.

Dr Roger Campbell, chief executive officer of the Pork Cooperative Research Centre says it’s a worthwhile investment which, they hope will revitalise the Australian pork industry and benefit pork producers.

If you’re interested in participating in the study, they’re starting to recruit.

You need to be a non smoker, overweight or diabetic and willing to eat the provided meat for nine months.

You also have to be prepared to go to the city to be measured and collect your meat every two weeks.

Call 8302 2098, leave a message and the researchers will get back to you with more information.

Heywire – giving rural youth a voice

It’s that time of year again when young people between the ages of 16 and 22 are being encouraged to enter the ABC’s Heywire competition.

We’re after stories in all forms of media, text, photos, video and audio about life and issues in regional Australia.

Winners will have their story broadcast across a range of ABC stations and online and will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Heywire Youth Issues Forum in Canberra in February.

Past winner Bianca Halliday formerly from Pinnaroo, now lives in Renmark, she told Kerrie Lush that winning Heywire was a great experience.

Entries close October 8. Enter your story now at abc.net.au/heywire.
